TYDTWDay!!

I get to take my dog and my baby to work everyday!

If you have never heard of TYDTWDay, you’re missing out!  Of course, you would likely have to be a pretty avid dog lover, and even then, unless your workplace participated, you still might have no idea what the acronym meant.  If you haven’t gathered from the clues already given, I’m referring to Take Your Dog to Work Day!  This pet lover’s holiday, which began in 1999, is always celebrated on the Friday after Father’s Day.  This comes as no surprise considering dog’s have a long earned reputation of being a man’s best friend!   It also comes as no surprise that the number of businesses participating in this event is rapidly growing.

Now, in case you are scratching your head and wondering why in the world any person would want to have a hairy, slobbery, smelly creature that likes to jump all over you in an effort to lick you right on the mouth—I might be describing my dog—at work, let me recap some of the benefits of pets.

How many of you would like to experience less stress at work?  For those of you lucky people that work in a non-stress environment, there are benefits for you too, so don’t stop reading yet!  Studies have demonstrated that pets in the workplace actually contribute to stress reduction.  And if that isn’t cool enough, pets also contribute to teamwork and overall job satisfaction.  All these benefits help employees to feel more supported at work and improve overall production making it a win—win situation for everyone!

Pets also can improve a person’s heart health, alleviate depression, and reduce obesity!  A built in diet plan while at work—count me in!  In fact, pet ownership saves the healthcare system 11.7 billion dollars every year.  I will take a pet over a hospital visit any day!

I would encourage everyone to research bringing this event to your workplace yearly, if not more often, but in the event that dogs are not a feasible option for your business place, an aviary always is!  This alternative solution provides the many benefits of bringing dogs, without the liability, mess, and smell that often accompany these lovable creatures!  I believe Sharon Henning, an administrator at Country Oaks Care Center said it best:  “The latest trend is for senior communities to have cats and dogs.  All of these are a lot of work.  The care falls on the Activity Department who already has many other responsibilities.  Bevy of Birdhomes looks like a beautiful piece of furniture.  It is a low maintenance self contained (infection control) source of conversation.  The colors and constant motion of the birds are calming.”

If you need any more convincing that an aviary is a win—win situation for your business, contact Bev @ 888-756-1693.  Hope to hear from you soon!
