2014-08-28 06.08.09Although Willis Dormer has nicknamed himself “the chameleon”, mainly because he is slow and methodical when cleaning or prepping an aviary, and because of his ever changing moods, others would likely label him as “the bird whistler”.  This talent has been discovered over the last twenty years, oddly the same amount of time that Beverly Dormer (his ever-doting wife) has been in the bird business.  Perhaps awakening to the song of birds every day (sounds better than a blaring alarm or the putrid smell of another’s morning breathe) has stimulated his vocal chords into action!  Whatever caused this talent to appear, one can hardly distinguish between him and the actual birds!  He specializes in canary and shaft-tail finch calls; another exciting revelation since canaries can belt out a beautiful tune and shaft tail finches are fond of mimicking other sounds.

Since Willis had the good fortune to woo over the fine bird lady, he has helped with every aspect of the business. He also has a business of his own as a pinstriper.   This steady hand and attention to detail come in handy while preparing aviaries for delivery, cleaning and training other technicians.  Willis’ favorite part about the job is joking with the residents!   Sometimes however, the sweet older ladies want to reward his humor with a kiss—reward him with your laughter instead ladies because this man has been happily married for 39 years!  Working side by side must be working out for this couple.

Another contribution this talented guy has given to the company is its beautiful logo.  No computers were harmed (or even used) in the designing and drawing of this masterpiece!

When you see Willis in your community, grab a resident or two and gather around the aviary to enjoy this chameleon tell some jokes (he’s a pretty funny guy),  or listen to the melodic blending of birdsong and human whistling!
