It’s always thrilling when birds sit on their eggs.  Even more thrilling is when little, rather odd looking creatures begin to emerge from these eggs.  Witnessing the cycle of life up close is a wondrous experience and naturally we don’t want any foreigner disrupting this cycle!  Thus, when our technicians come to clean everyone tends to be on high alert when baby birds or promising eggs are present.

What exactly do the technicians do in these delicate situations?  The answer varies slightly depending on which species is reproducing.  The first thing a technician will do is observe the happenings inside the aviary for a bit.  If a bird is sitting on a nest, then it is time to investigate a little further.  Once inside, the technician will look inside the nest to see if any eggs or babies inhabit the nest.  If it is discovered that eggs are present, the technician will resume cleaning the aviary as usual with one exception.  The nest containing the eggs will be left alone during the cleaning and afterwards the mama bird will resume sitting on the eggs.

In the event babies that have not yet left the nest are discovered one of two things will occur.  If the babies belong to the finch or dove family, the nest containing the baby birds will be left alone during the cleaning (the technician will cover the nest with a lightweight cloth).  However, if the babies belong to the canary family, then the mama will not be separated for long.  The canary will still be caught and checked for overall health and maintenance, but once the mama canary has been released the technician will place her back with the babies and then will cover and secure the nest with a lightweight cloth.  This will allow the canary to remain with her babies while the cleaning takes place, but will also keep the mama from escaping!

Although regular cleaning and checking the health of your birds is important, we are also aware and vigilant to preserve the beautiful life that is unfolding before your eyes.  That is why we have perfected a method that allows your aviary to remain pristine, while the cycle of life continues to flourish inside.  If you have any additional questions feel free to call us @ 1-888-756-1693.
