Gold Breast Finch
These tiny birds are called Gold-Breast, named after their chests ranging from a dull yellow to a deep gold coloring. These are some of the smallest finches we have in our aviaries and often get mistaken for babies.
The way to tell the difference between a male and female is shown in the above picture. The male have a red stripe across the eyes giving them the look of a mask. These little superheroes also have a high pitch chirp.
Due to their small size they make excellent escape artists. We have had them squeeze between our wire cages on many instances. And it’s even more fun trying to catch these little guys. If interested in getting a pair, make sure your cage wires are small enough.
Another thing to beware of if you have a pair in your aviary is to make sure when you put a bath in that the water is only an inch deep. This will protect these tiny cuties, and will ensure you will enjoy them longer.
